Horizontal Machining Center or Vertical Machine Tool - Tips in Choosing the Right Equipment

If you are a machine shop operator, you might come across the question of choosing between a Horizontal Machining Center or a CNC Vertical Machine tool. It is critical to making this choice considering all the factors so that you don’t end up choosing the wrong one.
To make your life easier, here are some of the points to note when you contact a Horizontal MachiningManufacturer or a CNC VerticalMachining Supplier.

Check out these interesting facts about the two types of machines to make your final decision. To begin with, let’s check out some advantages of getting a Horizontal Machining Centre!

The Horizontal Machining Centres of (HMC) would stand out when you use it on runtime for the spindle. It compares to almost 25% on a Vertical Machine Centre (VMC) to as much as 85% on any HMC. To put it simply - HMC can create the same number of parts by using the only ⅓ of lesser labor in doing it.
The cost of HMCs is significantly higher to the VMCs, but at the same time, they can work as much as 3 VMCs in one go.
The HMCs have a longer tool life and a finer and refined finish on the surface due to gravity aided chip evacuation. It also has a tombstone capacity of the fourth axis.

When it comes to the advantages of using the VMCs, these are some of them:

The VMCs are immensely cheaper to the HMCs. If you compare the costs of the two, as per the Association of Manufacturing Technology, the VMCs have an average cost of $120,000 while the average cost of HMCs is $380,000. Therefore, it is only obvious that the sale of VMCs is four times higher than the HMCs each year.
The technology used in VMCs is simpler so you can easily understand the things that are happening inside it. On the contrary, HMCs has a spindle behind their tombstone. Therefore, it is harder to see what is happening inside it.
VMCs require much less space on the floor as compared to the HMCs.
More vendors and manufacturers are used to the VMCs and have experience with it so you can get easy help in case you get stuck.
Hence, it can be concluded that VMCs can be a better option for you if you are new in the market and want to make limited investments. Also, VMCs are better if you have to work with small quantities. On the contrary, HMCs is perfect for shops who have a large amount of capital to invest. However, if you have the budget to invest in skills and advanced tools, you must go for HMCs.

So, choose wisely as per your needs!
